With the announcement of the new Cabinet on 13 May 2025, the Department of Health and Aged Care has formally been renamed the Department of Health, Disability and Aged Care.
The change reflects the transfers of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) into the Health portfolio, headed by Mark Butler, who added Disability and the NDIS to his portfolio after the Labor Government's ministerial reshuffle in which Sam Rae was appointed Minister for Aged Care.
The name change is the Department's second in less than three years. The Department of Health added Aged Care to its name in July 2022.
