Arcare opens Canberra aged care home as Point Cook home, Melbourne, receives approval

Arcare, which is owned by the Knowles Group, opened its two-storey, 120-bed aged care home Arcare Aranda in Canberra's north on Monday.

Arcare Aranda features an internal courtyard, boutique café, cinema, and hair salon. An Arcare spokesperson ftold The Weekly SOURCE it has had a very positive reception in the ACT, where Arcare Aranda is its first home and another two are on the way: 98-bed Arcare Wright, 13km southwest of the Canberra CBD, expected to open in late 2025, and Arcare Gold Creek, expected to open in late 2026.

The opening comes as the rapidly growing operator, which now has 56 aged care homes across NSW, the ACT, VIC, and QLD, was approved to build a $22 million, 136-bed home in Point Cook, 22km southwest of the Melbourne CBD. Arcare expects to open another three homes this year: 91-bed Arcare Croydon, 30km east of the Melbourne CBD, Arcare Werribee, 32km southwest of the Melbourne CBD, and, as mentioned above, Arcare Wright.

Arcare has several facilities under development including:

  • Arcare Clyde, 110 beds, 48km south east of the Melbourne CBD, set to open in mid-2026
  • Arcare Gold Creek, as mentioned above
  • Arcare Huntlee, 96 beds, co-located with Sencia's, the Knowles Group’s village brand, Green Ridge retirement village, expected to open in late 2027

The Knowles Group exited the home care sector earlier this year with the sale of its BodeWell Community Care business to Regis Aged Care.
