Richard Howarth, Managing Director of the business that owns and operates The Henry in Higgins, a suburb in the Belconnen district of Canberra, is looking forward to welcoming new residents into 54 brand new apartments in June.
"They are selling well,” he told The SOURCE.
The 46 townhouses, built by Richard Crookes Construction in the first two stages along with a clubhouse, are fully occupied after opening in August 2020. The architects were Clarke Keller and Stewart Architecture and The Henry is named after the suburb’s namesake, Henry Bourne Higgins.
The 40,425sqm site of the former Higgins Primary School, which Baitly bought via tender in 2016, still has room for development. The oval and reserve will remain.
"Watch this space,” said Richard, who added operating a retirement living facility was "easy and straight forward".
"We are a family business with parents having a background in health and economics, and about 25 years ago they saw an opportunity to improve the retirement experience above those they could see in the market," Richard said.
"I came from a law background and now love seeing the positive and real impact that we make in people's lives. This includes the impact made through people physically living in functional and intelligently designed light filled spaces; forming a sense of community whilst watching a movie or doing a gym or cooking class in The Henry Clubhouse; and from helping people age in place well by offering our residents home care services through The Butler (our onsite home care provider).
"The residences coming online in June incorporate all of the wants and lessons learned over the past 25 years."
