EQT’s Metlifecare gets go-ahead for new NZ$200M continuum of care facility in NZ

1 min read

One of the leading retirement village operators has approval to start building a new facility at Three Parks, next to the Wānaka Golf Course, in the resort town on New Zealand's South Island.

Queenstown Lakes District Council independent commissioner Wendy Baker granted non-notified consent in December 2023 for catering for up to 150 residents, comprising 93 independent villas and a 30-suite aged care home, on a 5.4ha site.

Earthworks for the first 30 two and three-bedroom villas were due to start later this year and the first residents would be welcomed on site in 2026. Stage two — including the main amenities building and care home — would be completed in 2027.

The company has a five-year growth strategy of expanding its geographical footprint across the country and increasing its volume of aged residential care offerings. Since 2022, Metlifecare has bought two premium retirement villages in Christchurch (Merivale Village and The Village Palms), and the Springlands Lifestyle Village in Blenheim.

Metlifecare, whose CEO is Earl Gasparich, operates 32 retirement villages and care homes in the North Island and three in the South Island.
