LDK Seniors’ Living wins approval for high care unit at The Landings in Sydney

1 min read

LDK Seniors’ Living has received Ku-ring-gai Council approval to convert five existing apartments at The Landings in North Turramurra, Sydney, into eight secure studios with shared living and dining spaces.

The unit will support existing residents who need a safer environment due to dementia or who require closer access to higher levels of care, aligning with LDK’s model of providing home care within a retirement village setting.

"These will enable us to downsize residents with higher care needs into a purpose built environment with higher concentrations of care. It is a great step to rounding out our vision for The Landings and enhance our One Move Promise," Chief Executive Officer Byron Cannon told The Weekly SOURCE.

"Importantly, we also secured approval to build a purpose-built space to accommodate our Supported Lifestyle Program, adjacent to the Care Cottages. This program caters for residents with emerging cognitive decline where we host activities and provide support seven days per week. This program is fully funded by LDK as part of our promise. Not only does it enhance the wellness of our residents, it also provides respite for their partners who can get along with their daily life. We have been running this program out of a smaller apartment that we bought back for this purpose. Due to the growing demand and high satisfaction levels, a larger and more purpose built space was needed.

"It has been a very large investment by LDK as we have had to buy back apartments over time from exiting residents and then incur construction costs as we build. We feel strongly that we are creating value for our brand by providing this very important service to our residents."

The Landings, acquired by LDK in December 2018, comprises 220 independent living units and apartments and is one of three villages operated by the private provider, alongside Greenway Views and Amberfield. All three run on LDK’s Village Membership model – an alternative to the traditional Deferred Management Fee and now also being trialled by Anglicare Sydney.
