Nine years later, one of three approvals needed for Mbark’s retirement village at Federal Golf Club, Canberra, approved

The golf club in Red Hill, 7km south of Canberra's CBD, has been given approval by the ACT Government to reconfigure the course for a 125-dwelling retirement village agreed between the two parties in October 2015.

The fate of the $103 million village by Mbark, founded by James Robinson, John Leo, and Adam Somerville, now depends on the approval of a development application (DA) for the village itself and a DA for a lease variation to remove the concessional status from about 5.8ha of the club’s 85.9ha lease area where the village is to be sited, and subdivision.

Mbark plans 77 single-storey houses and 48 apartments across six three-storey buildings, and a health and wellbeing centre for residents.

This DA approval deals with the preparatory works for the project, including demolition and earthworks to existing course tees and bunkers, tree and landscaping removal, modification and landscaping for new courses, construction of a pond, temporary access road and other works.
