The Minns Government has pledged $16 million from the sale of the Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund, which was set up to build major infrastructure projects, to expand aged care and assisted living facilities in the NSW Snowy Monaro town of Bombala, 485km south of Sydney, the Financial Review has reported.
$15 million will go towards expansion of the Bombala Hospital to accommodate Federally funded aged care beds, Eden-Monaro MP Steve Whan told The SOURCE.
“The timeframe on the project is likely to be two years,” he said.
Steve promised the funding for Currawarna Assisted Living in the state election, where he won his seat from the Coalition.
“I’m thrilled that my $840,000 commitment to help the community re-open Currawarna in Bombala as an assisted living facility will be delivered in the budget,” Steve said in a statement.
In February 2022, Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT closed Currawarna aged care home in Bombala, citing staff shortages. Now, the community has raised more than $300,000 and with the NSW Government chipping in $840,000, the aged care home can open.
Currawarna is raising funds, in part, through sales of its ‘Dare to Bare’ calendars featuring scantily clad residents.
The SOURCE: The Bombala community is to be commended for its efforts to reopen this valuable community asset. Now the NSW Govt is chipping in.
