Eldercare breaks ground on 100-bed Adelaide aged care home

1 min read

South Australian aged care provider Eldercare has turned the first sod on its redeveloped Kirkholme RAC in Goodwood, in Adelaide’s south.

The Not For Profit is building a new 100-bed home to replace its obsolete 84-bed Kirkholme facility, which was built in 1965 and demolished in November last year after being deemed no longer fit for purpose.

When completed in mid-2023, the new Kirkholme – which is being built by Sarah Constructions – will feature rooms in groups of six or seven, which Eldercare says will “create a more homelike and personal environment with residents being close to their living areas”.

David Pisoni MP (pictured, second from left), SA’s Minister for Innovation and Skills, participated in the sod-turning ceremony, saying the Marshall Government is supporting growth industries to boost a skilled workforce.

“It was great to be part of the sod-turning ceremony for the new Eldercare Kirkholme facility in Goodwood today.

“Congratulations to all involved in this wonderful project which will create new employment opportunities in the construction and aged care sectors,” he said.

Eldercare last year received approval for the scaled-back rebuild after being forced to revise its plans due to community opposition.
