The Not For Profit has revealed a major step in its long-term growth strategy, extending its operations beyond New South Wales for the first time.

Scalabrini Communities has acquired South Australian provider The Society of Saint Hilarion, taking over its two aged care homes in Fulham, 7km west of the Adelaide CBD, and Seaton, 10km north west of the city centre – 175 beds in total – along with 160 Home Care Packages.

It represents more than a 25% increase to its residential care portfolio and a fivefold lift in home care services.

“This is a defining moment for Scalabrini,” CEO Richard de Haast said. “We were approached by The Society of Saint Hilarion because of our clear and unwavering mission to support older adults, particularly those from migrant backgrounds, to live with dignity and belonging. This move allows us to reach more people who have built their lives in this country far from their homeland but close to our hearts.”

Richard told The Weekly SOURCE that the organisation is “firmly in the market” for further opportunities as it works toward establishing a national footprint.

The integration follows two years of rapid change for Scalabrini, including the launch of Live Easy Home Care, the expansion of its social connection programs, and planning approval for its $60 million Harbourside development in Drummoyne.

Saint Hilarion Chair Rosemary Velardo said the move will continue the organisation’s mission “under an operator that shares our values and deeply respects our history,” with the Villa Saint Hilarion and House of Saint Hilarion names to remain.

The transition is subject to regulatory approval from the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission and the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing. Scalabrini will also support Saint Hilarion’s annual Feast celebrations for the next decade.
