Goodwin has key to its seventh retirement village
Erik Boddeus, Goodwin Aged Care Services’ Executive Manager Retirement Living, Property and Development, said Goodwin Village Downer is a new benchmark for future developments.

On Wednesday, 4 March 2026, Goodwin Village Downer was issued its Practical Completion Certificate, following receipt of the Certificate of Occupancy and Use in late February.

Goodwin Village Downer has:
- 109 independent living apartments;
- 20 Serviced Apartments;
- Ground floor Clubhouse with communal spaces;
- Outdoor communal spaces; and
- Car parking for residents, staff and visitors.
A key feature of the new village is its focus on "rightsizing". Moving away from "cookie-cutter" models, Goodwin Village Downer consists almost exclusively of spacious two- and three-bedroom apartments.
"Just because you’ve stopped working doesn’t mean life has to shrink," Erik said. "Our residents want space for media rooms, libraries, or crafts; the things they loved doing in their family homes."
In a first for a Canberra retirement village, Goodwin has partnered with Community Housing Canberra (CHC) to provide seven affordable rental units within the development. This initiative ensures that high-quality, secure housing remains accessible to seniors across different financial circumstances.
Furthermore, the inclusion of 20 dedicated Serviced Apartments allows residents to age in place, accessing meals and domestic support while remaining part of the vibrant village community.
Goodwin is also expanding Goodwin Village Monash. The "Next Stage" Monash development will add 56 modern apartments. The new homes are designed to be fully adaptable, ensuring they remain functional as residents' needs evolve.
Unlike standalone developments, the Monash expansion offers immediate access to a deep-rooted community.
“The Clubhouse will be extended and modernised over the coming 18 months to accommodate our expansion and provide an even better experience for our residents”, Erik said.
