Consultant Liquid Interactive earns nearly $30,000 per day to operate and update My Aged Care for reforms

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDAC) has awarded digital consultants Liquid Interactive a $476,432 extension on its contract to "operate and enhance" My Aged Care, the consumer portal for aged care services, making the total contract worth $27 million.

The contract with Brisbane-based Liquid Interactive, which was founded and is now chaired by Michael Burke, has now been extended 14 times, amounting to nearly $30,000 per working day over the life of the three-and-a-half-year contract.

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing told The Weekly SOURCE. "The most recent variation to the contract with Liquid Interactive to operate and enhance the My Aged Care website is to support the implementation of the Support at Home program.

"It will also improve website users’ ability to search for providers that can meet their care needs in their preferred location.

"This forms part of the aged care reform program of work."

In April 2025, the Acting Inspector-General of Aged Care Ian Yates AM launched a review of My Aged Care, the first time the office had used its powers to investigate a Government entity in the aged care system. The review was set to be completed by the end of 2024, but is now expected to be released in October.

The Department of Health and Aged Care's 2023-24 Annual Report showed only 56% of surveyed users said they were satisfied with the My Aged Care website.

In the Government's assessment of its Care Finder Program, My Aged Care was found to have gaps in information and inaccuracies about service availability.

A spokesperson for the DHDAC told The Weekly SOURCE My Aged Care recently referred aged care assessments to inactive assessment outlets, but said the problem has been rectified.
