Minister for Aged Care Anika Wells (pictured below) has announced a free one-hour dementia training course is available to all frontline workers to try and ensure they can help people living with dementia in emergency situations.
The free one-hour online course will be delivered by Dementia Training Australia, and has already been taken up by seven first responder organisations across four States and the Northern Territory.
The training covers topics such as dementia symptoms and the impact of dementia on the brain and behaviour, and features interactive content and practical insights from experienced professionals in the field. After the one-hour course, participants will receive a certificate.
"Currently, we are asking our First Responders to handle challenging situations for which they may have limited preparation," said Isabelle Meyer, Executive Director of Dementia Training Australia.
