New Seniors and Ageing Well portfolio created by South Australian Government

Nat Cook has been appointed Minister for Seniors and Ageing Well in a reshuffle of the South Australian Government by Premier Peter Malinauskas on Monday afternoon.

The creation of a new Seniors and Ageing Well portfolio has been welcomed by Retirement Living Council (RLC) Executive Director Daniel Gannon, stating it is "an important step in recognising impending demographic changes and the silver tsunami of older South Australians".

"With the number of South Australians aged over 75 set to increase by 54% to 2040, the establishment of this new portfolio will ensure the health and housing challenges that come with this growing cohort are a key focus of government," Daniel said.

"The RLC looks forward to working with Minister Cook moving forward to ensure older South Australians have access to the age-friendly housing and care options they deserve."

To reflect the Government’s decision to prioritise housing and home ownership, a new Department of Housing and Urban Development will also be established in the state.

Minister Nick Champion will lead an expanded housing super portfolio encompassing all facets of housing, housing infrastructure, urban development, and planning.
