In a podcast with The Australian Business Show, the CEO of the leading continuum of care provider spoke about the future of retirement living and aged care.
Ryman Healthcare operates under the Victorian Retirement Villages Act 1986, currently under review, and the Australian Government's Aged Care Act 1997, also under review.
He spoke about the recommendations of the Aged Care Taskforce and how, if adopted, they will turn the aged care sector around.
"The most telling point through the Taskforce review process was that the residents are only contributing 4% of the cost of the care while they are in aged care,” Cam said.
"4% - that's it. Would it break them to contribute 8%?
"Often I talk to my residents who have been with us as retirement village residents for a long time. They are very happy, moved into our aged care and can’t believe it's free.
"Often they want to pay."

"There is a cap on what you can charge,” he said.
"The environment is not set up for people who can afford it, want to do something about it, and pay if they want to. It has not been set up that way."
