Uniting NSW.ACT and Wyanga Aboriginal Aged Care to build aged care home afer buying site for $1

1 min read

The City of Sydney Council will sell the 1,925sqm site, currently a $20 million 55-space car park in Sydney's inner west, to the operators for a nominal fee of $1.

Uniting NSW. ACT will plan and build the 50-bed aged care home, which will be operated by Wyanga Aboriginal Aged Care, which has provided culturally safe home care and support services to the local community for 30 years at a site adjacent to the car park.

As part of the deal, a 55-car underground car park will also be built, and handed back to the Council to operate.

Uniting will also hand ownership of the operations over to Wyanga, once the development is complete.

"We are proud to partner with Wyanga Aboriginal Aged Care to create a dedicated Aboriginal-specific aged care home in Redfern, a place where Elders are cared for in ways that reflect culture, dignity, and connection to Country," Uniting NSW.ACT said.

"This partnership is a direct expression of our First Nations People and Place Strategy, which commits Uniting to supporting strong, thriving, and self-determining communities."

The Council began looking for an operator on the 1,925sqm site at 49 Cope Street, Redfern, a year ago.
