The State Government has opened a 36-bed, $39.6 million aged care home at Camperdown Hospital, 190km west of the state capital, as part of its ongoing investment in public aged care facilities.
The facility, renamed Leura Aged Care, is the 159th Victorian Government-owned aged care facility, which are mostly in rural and remote areas.
Victoria's Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt officially opened and toured the aged care home on Thursday, 21 August. The facility is designed according to dementia-friendly principles and is built in the small household style, with each household including a dedicated kitchen, and dining area and lounge.
The project was delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority, in partnership with South West Healthcare, which will operate the home, and builder A W Nicholson. Construction began in November 2022.
In the 2025-26 Victorian Budget, the Government allocated $34.6 million to building new aged care homes, with a further $7.5 million invested for public facility upgrades. These investments are on top of the more than $700 million invested in public residential aged care – including $370 million for the Rural and Regional Public Sector Residential Aged Care Revitalisation Strategy, which is replacing and refurbishing aged care facilities across Victoria.
