Harbison to build first co-located retirement village in NSW Southern Highlands

1 min read

The community-owned organisation, which has been providing aged care services to the Southern Highlands community for over 60 years, is building a retirement village on land near its aged care home in Moss Vale, 142km southwest of Sydney's CBD.

Chief Executive Officer David Cochran has told The Weekly SOURCE the village will be home to 35 two-plus and three-bedroom units designed by architects Independent Design Group. The builder is North Richmond Constructions while Westpac is Harbison's banking partner.

Harbison has been investing in transport services to help couples stay connected when one partner moves into care, acknowledging the emotional toll of separation – especially in areas like the Highlands with no public transport – but believes the new village will help to bridge this gap.

"We think a big part of the project is going to be meeting demand for couples where one of them needs higher care and they don't want to be separated," David said.

Practical completion of the village is due in late 2027, with the site expected to be operational in early 2028.

Harbison is also about to start construction on a 72-bed residential aged care redevelopment in Burradoo after being awarded a $27.5 million grant from the Federal Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.
