In the week to 26 October 2023, the number of aged care residents with COVID-19 soared past 1,000, the first time cases have climbed beyond the milestone in nearly four months.
There were 1,206 resident cases reported during the week, and 511 staff cases. 13 residents died.
225 aged care homes reported outbreaks, a 22% increase on the previous week.
Victoria again led case numbers, but NSW cases are climbing.
Residential aged care cases in NSW more than doubled to 387. In contrast, Victorian aged care cases are plateauing, with a 5% increase to 464.
The number of homes with outbreaks in NSW jumped 80% to 72, while the number of homes in Victoria reporting outbreaks only increased 13% to 86.
