VIC COVID-19 cases surge

There were 1,002 active COVID-19 cases among residential aged care staff and residents in the week to 12 October. Victoria had the most homes with cases (71 homes, 401 resident cases) – significantly more than the number in NSW (30 homes, 130 resident cases).

During the week, 72 new outbreaks were recorded, a slight increase on the previous week, and 14 residents died, up from seven the previous week.

Just more than half of residents (50.2%) have received a booster dose in the last six months. Only 513 residents received a booster in the last week.
