Aged care and disability services provider Annecto announces closure, impacting 3,000 clients

After 70 years of operations across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory, the provider has revealed it will cease operations in July 2025.

“This decision was not made lightly,” Annecto Chair Colleen Furnaletto, OAM (pictured below) said in a statement released yesterday.

"Our focus now is working together to transition the people we support and the services they receive to other trusted providers who can continue delivering the support they need and deserve.”

The organisation said, “This difficult decision follows careful deliberation and extensive stakeholder consultation which considered the service model shifts in the aged care and disability sectors and the financial challenges facing the organisation.

“As a result, it was identified that Annecto would be unable to continue providing services in the future.”

Annecto, which is based in Footscray, 5km west of Melbourne's CBD, serviced more than 3,000 home care, Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and disability clients.

According to its 2023-24 annual report, the organisation supported more than 4,400 clients and employed over 1,000 staff. Annecto recorded revenue of $85.9 million for the financial year, with expenses totalling $84.9 million.

Government agencies including the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs are now working with Annecto to coordinate the transition of clients and staff to alternative providers.

In recent years, Annecto expanded its footprint by taking on CHSP clients from local councils withdrawing from service provision. In 2023, Buloke Shire Council and Mildura Council transferred parts of their CHSP services to the organisation.
