The current home care system is not fit for purpose, says Nick Loudon, outgoing member of the Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA) board and Envigor Home Care Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer since 2009.
The shift to Consumer Directed Care (CDC) in February 2017 has inadvertently resulted in a system where many home care recipients are not receiving the support services that they require to live well at home, says Nick, who was formerly CEO of private aged care operator Seasons.
“[Clients] aren’t the experts, so we end up having programs put in place, by and large, that aren’t set for purpose. Therefore, the older person (who is not the expert) runs out of ideas of what it is that they think they need support within short stead,” he said.
