Victorian Govt spending $57M on new 40-bed aged care home – $1.4M a bed

Work has begun on the new aged care facility in Rutherglen, which lies nearly 300km north east of Melbourne, close to the NSW border.

It will have 50 single rooms with ensuites, housing the relocated 40 beds from Glenview Community Care Nursing Home. It will feature dementia-friendly design and flexible shared spaces.

The new home, which will be built by Zaunder Construction, with architecture by ClarkeHopkinsClarke,  will be operated by Indigo Health North. It is scheduled to be built in mid-2025.

The new facility forms part of the first stage of the Victorian Government’s Regional and Rural Public Sector Residential Aged Care Services Revitalisation Strategy

The strategy aims to upgrade outdated public sector aged care homes over time, constructing purpose-built facilities that better meet community expectations and are fit for contemporary models of aged care.
