Victorian Council becomes 81st local council to stop delivering home care

Yarra City Council has announced it will "transition" its 137 home care clients to "trusted and long-term contracted service provider" Mercy Health over the next six to 12 months.

“Significant delays to the implementation of the Federal Government’s aged care reforms announced eight years ago, have created a great amount of uncertainty for our aged care clients about the future of their care," said Mayor Cr Edward Crossland.

"With this decision, we are pleased to provide certainty to our aged care clients.

“Yarra City Council’s home care services have been delivered under a unique hybrid model for 24 years. While some services are currently provided by Council staff in-house, the majority are delivered by a trusted and long-term contracted service provider, Mercy Health.

In February, we reported that 80 local Councils around Australia have exited home care. Yarra Council's decision makes that 81 - the 47th in Victoria.
