Older women targeted for affordable housing plan in Melbourne’s southeast

1 min read

Community Housing Ltd has proposed a 13-storey apartment tower in Dandenong, 29km southeast of Melbourne’s CBD, offering 86 homes for vulnerable groups.

The application, prepared by Squareback Planning and designed by Cera Stribley, for a Ministerial Permit states the proposed development would target older women experiencing homelessness, veterans at risk of homelessness, victims of family and domestic violence, and frontline workers employed locally.

Community Housing Limited, who in partnership with Homes Victoria opened 137 homes in Croydon, 30km east of Melbourne's CBD, in March, said the proposed 54 one-bedroom and 32 two-bedroom apartments “marks a pivotal step forward in the provision of affordable and social housing in Dandenong”.

The development, with all homes designated as affordable housing, would be funded through Round 1 of the Housing Australia Futures Fund program.

Design features include a communal lounge space at ground level, while each apartment would feature a private balcony. 62% of the apartments would also be designed for accessibility.
