Kathryn Greiner’s contract up at end of the year – NSW’s Retirement Village Ambassador Program events still on hold

1 min read

If you had thought that NSW’s outspoken Retirement Village Ambassador has been quiet of late, you would be right.

A spokesperson for Fair Trading NSW has confirmed that all Retirement Village Ambassador Program events have been postponed until further notice due to COVID.

“Fair Trading continues to monitor the government’s COVID health advice and public health orders and will consider program events when it is safe to do so,” they said.

“The direction and delivery of the program for 2021 is currently being reviewed and will be announced in due course.”

Ms Greiner had been appointed to the role to represent NSW’s 55,000 village residents in December 2018 – almost two years ago – following her 2017 report into the NSW retirement village sector which followed the Four Corners/Fairfax investigation of village operator Aveo.

Since then, she has proved to be a vocal critic of the sector, questioning if the sector has the right leadership to drive reforms.

The spokesperson tells us that Ms Greiner’s contract is current until late 2020. The sector is not in support of her re-appointment.
