Yallambee House deemed non-compliant by regulator as incident investigation incomplete after 100 days

A performance report on Yallambee Lodge, where great-grandmother Clare Nowland was allegedly Tasered resulting in injuries that contributed to her death, published on 4 September 2023, shows the aged care home failed to comply with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC)’s governance standards.

After a Priority 1 incident occurred in May 2023, the assessor notes “gaps” in Yallambee’s internal incident investigation and reporting.

More than 100 days after the incident, the assessors had still not been provided with evidence that an internal investigation had been finalised to prevent a similar incident from occurring.

“The assessment team identified the provider’s risk management systems and practices did not always identify and respond to abuse and neglect of consumers,” the report notes.

Clare Nowland was allegedly Tasered on 17 May 2023.
