A Brisbane-based aged care operator has acquired a 1.52-hectare site in Townsville for $4 million, with plans to operate an aged care facility on the site.

Sunnycare, which currently operates a standalone residential aged care facility in Sunnybank Hills, 15km south of the Brisbane CBD, and delivers Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) services from South Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast, has emerged as the purchaser.

The organisation focuses on supporting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) care recipients, with carers who speak a wide range of languages including English, Chinese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Hindi, Filipino, Japanese, Korean and Cantonese.

The Townsville property, located at 235 Fulham Road in the centre of the city, around 1,300km north of Brisbane, comprises six commercial buildings and two-storey residential accommodation connected by covered walkways. It has street frontage on three sides and is close to Vincent Market Place shopping centre, major roads and public transport.

It is not yet clear whether Sunnycare plans to demolish or repurpose the existing buildings for residential aged care.

Colliers Townsville Managing Director Peter Wheeler told The Weekly SOURCE the property had been on the market for 18 months and had attracted interest from a range of prospective buyers.

The vendor was Churches of Christ in Queensland. We approached Sunnycare CEO Claire Wang for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.
