News Limited journalist Charles Miranda continues the retirement village blowtorch

1 min read

Another week, another major retirement village story by Charles Miranda, this time in the Daily Telegraph and the News wire services.

He explains “inspectors from Fair Trading are swooping on 50 retirement villages across NSW as part of the state governments ‘blitz’ looking at compliance in the industry”.

This actually occurred in mid August following the Fairfax/Four Corners village expose, but he does add that at least one village operator ‘could be passed on to NSW police’ for financial fraud and misappropriation of funds of a deceased estate.

The residents of one village highlighted by Miranda, The Landings in Turramurra (Sydney), in February last year gathered the 500 members required to establish a political party which they called the Seniors United Party. They have just backed a former SAS commander (Warwick Stacey) as a candidate for the New England by-election in competition for Barnaby Joyce's seat.
