Nine-storey retirement living tower proposed for Brisbane
The riverside suburb of Toowong, about 6km south-west of Brisbane’s CBD, is emerging as a hotspot for new development, with a nine-storey retirement living tower now proposed.
The Weekly SOURCE reported in May last year, Regis Aged Care had secured development approval for a five-storey, 123-bed home in the leafy suburb. Anglicare Southern Queensland also operates the St John’s Home for Men Residential Aged Care in Toowong.
Now an impact assessable development application has been lodged by Lollies Management Pty Ltd for a nine-storey retirement facility comprising 53 independent living units, two levels of podium parking and extensive communal and landscaped open space on a large corner site adjoining Toowong Memorial Park.
According to the planning documentation by town planners Urbis and Jackson Teece Architects, the development has been designed to present as a five-storey building to Bayliss Street, with upper levels recessed and stepping up to nine storeys toward the rear of the site where it adjoins the park.
The proposal occupies a combined site area of approximately 3,520msq following planned road dedication, spanning three allotments.
The site currently contains low scale residential buildings and is located within the Medium Density Residential Zone under the Toowong Auchenflower Neighbourhood Plan.
