One of Tasmania’s biggest retirement developments in years is about to break ground after OneCare appointed the builder for its $46 million retirement living project.

The Not For Profit provider’s Barossa Living development in Glenorchy, a suburb of Hobart, will see 56 villas and apartments built within OneCare’s existing Barossa Park precinct. The current retirement village consists of 40 retirement living villas; the 136-aged care bed Barossa Park Lodge aged care home, home care services and seniors rental units.

Homes are priced from $715,000, with a number already reserved.

“Hobart and southern Tasmania have seen very limited retirement village development over the past decade despite our population ageing,” OneCare CEO Peter Williams said.
“Barossa Living has been designed to meet the expectations of a new generation of retirees who want independence, flexibility and the ability to maintain an active lifestyle.”

The homes will feature private courtyards and balconies, with many offering north-facing river and mountain views.

Construction by Fairbrother is expected to begin shortly, with completion slated for 2027.
