Opportunity: just 17% of village operators provide home care services, Property Council report says

1 min read

Just 17% of retirement village units currently receive home care support, making plenty of opportunity for village operators to enter the home care market.

The Property Council’s ‘Delivering Home Care in Retirement Villages’ report, conducted with Ansell Strategic, shows the majority of villages already offer services by outside suppliers such as visiting health professionals and emergency call systems (shown in the graph pictured).

Village operators can now participate in these services. The part Government-funded study found a number of benefits to home care in villages including:

Residents being identified for care at an earlier stage.
Staffing arrangements and co-location of clients allows for easier delivery of care services, even at short notice.
A decrease in the need for residential aged care through ADL support, medication management and day monitoring during times of high need.

A fall in the rate of emergency department admissions, with residents being referred to hospital through GPs.
