Retirement Living Council Executive Director Daniel Gannon said the peak body is already pushing for more consultation sessions after operators reported they were unable to access the inaugural workshop.

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has held three online workshops this month with Support at Home providers on the proposed 2026 trial, which is backed by $5.2 million in funding over three years announced in December 2024.

The Weekly SOURCE understands more than 100 Support at Home providers registered their interest to either participate in a workshop or provide written feedback, with the vast majority being Not For Profit organisations.

The Department’s workshops are intended to help design a pooled funding trial that would support more integrated services for older Australians living in the community.

Daniel said the Retirement Living Council is working with the Department to ensure the trial reflects its Shared Care White Paper, released in December 2023, which called for block-style funding to support ageing-in-place services within retirement villages.

“We would like more sessions with the Department to allow more operators to take part in a trial,” he said.
