$15M village redevelopment in Adelaide gets the go-ahead – despite community opposition

Plans for 26 new homes, including three-storey penthouses, at Balmoral Retirement Village in Dernancourt, 10km northeast of the CBD, have been approved despite complaints from two neighbours who say the buildings are too tall and will cast a shadow over their properties.

The operator had planned to build 23 new two-storey homes, but later revised its plans to add three penthouses with a third floor.

However, the council has decided the 11.15m height of the development is “compatible with the zone”.

“The building’s height “will not cause any unreasonable impacts to the amenity of nearby residential properties ... (through) visual impact, overshadowing or overlooking,” they said.
