$37M Resthaven Westbourne Park redevelopment revealed

South Australian Not For Profit provider Resthaven has unveiled plans for the $37 million redevelopment of its Westbourne Park aged care home, 5km south of the Adelaide CBD.

The 55-year-old 121-bed home is being rebuilt after two years of planning and consultation, and will include increased car parking, a new entrance, a café, and casual meeting and recreation areas surrounding a large central garden. 68 of the original rooms will be demolished and replaced in stages.

According to Resthaven’s Manager Building and Capital Projects, Emmet O’Donovan, the major redevelopment was required to continue to meet future expectations.

“To ensure we were on the right track, we undertook stakeholder engagement and co-design workshops in late 2021, with residents and families sharing their ideas and suggestions. These suggestions included traditional living spaces, more activities and games spaces, private dining areas, outdoor walking trails, and raised garden beds.

“We incorporated this feedback into our designs, which have received very positive feedback from the site community and neighbouring residents alike,” he said.

The site has been redesigned by Brown Falconer Architects, and construction by Kennett Builders is expected to take two years to complete.
