A new report released by Carers Australia has revealed that 2010 saw unpaid family carers providing almost 1.32 billion hours of care, valued at almost $41 billion. According to the new report The economic value of informal care in 2010, commissioned by Carers Australia and undertaken by Access Economics, the cost of caring is 33% higher than in was in 2005 and if the unpaid care was replaced with services purchased from formal care providers and provided in the home, the replacement value would be $41 billion.
