Aged and home care driving women’s dominance of job market: 400,000 new health jobs

The health care and education sectors have both added around 400,000 jobs – mainly to women, who are now driving both full-time and part-time employment growth in Australia, according to Associate Professor Rebecca Cassells from the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre at Curtin University.

As you can see, there are now 170,000 more carers and aides than there were a decade ago – around 150,000 are women.

But while demand for “caring” jobs are “here to stay” as Prof. Cassells says, jobs growth doesn’t necessarily mean better wages for women.
