Aged care at forefront of 20-year redevelopment of Brisbane’s St Vincent’s Private Hospital

An Aged Care, Educational and Heath precinct will be part of a proposal redevelopment of St Vincent’s Private Hospital at Kangaroo Point, 3.8km south of Brisbane’s CBD.

A development application has been lodged for preliminary approval to redevelop the entire existing St Vincent’s Private Hospital into residential, commercial and community land uses integrated over six stages that will span 20 years of redevelopment.

Designed by aged care architects Bickerton Masters and Gaskell Planning Consultants, the proposal seeks to vary the current development framework of the Brisbane Planning Scheme, to facilitate the approval of future development applications lodged over the site under a new Master Plan to split the site into two different precincts, with a residential precinct and a health, aged care and education precinct.

The health, aged care and education precinct, which is the second stage of building, allows for Residential Aged Care to be relocated from the existing Maycrest building on site.

Originally built in 1954, the ‘Mt Olivet’ Hospital was the first dedicated facility for seniors and was Queensland’s first modern hospice. Now, the site consists of St Vincent’s Private Hospital Brisbane and St Vincent’s Care Services.
