Aged care workers refusing COVID-19 vaccine in UK while the vaccine is failing to reach people receiving home care

As mass vaccinations against COVID-19 are conducted across the UK, there are reports upwards of 50% of aged care workers at some facilities are refusing the jab.

A Sky News report discovered half the workers at the Meadows Residential Aged Care home in West London have refused to be vaccinated.

Owner Ian Somauroo said staff were being selfish by refusing the vaccine because they were putting residents and other people’s lives at risk.

As of 2 February, the UK is administering more than 300,000 first dose vaccinations a day with 13.9% of the population having already received the jab.

However, there are still reports that the vaccine is failing to reach thousands of older people living at home who receive home care services.

Cera Care, who provide at home care in the UK, said only 1% of its 10,000 home care clients had received their vaccinations.
