Carrington Aged Care is seeking to expand senior living options in Sydney’s Macarthur region, with a development proposal for a mixed-use facility on a 27-ha site in Grasmere – but not everyone is happy.

The Not For Profit has plans to deliver 120 ILUs and 79 premium villas with approximately 60 assisted living units. The proposed Carrington Park would also deliver a three-storey aged care facility with 128 beds and a dementia cottage for 24 patients.

To do this, Carrington is seeking to increase the height limit on the block of land from 9.5 metres up to 24 metres to accommodate the larger apartment buildings.

However, some locals are concerned about the height of the buildings.

“This design is a lot bigger, and certainly a lot taller, than we expected,” said Grasmere resident Jo O’Brien.

But Carrington’s chief executive Raad Richards says the developer is willing to work with locals to find a solution.

“We are planning to conduct an information session for the community shortly to ensure that more accurate information is put out there for the benefit of the community and to dispel any speculative comments and opinions,” he told The Camden Advertiser.

“I would welcome any resident of the area concerned with the development to contact me to discuss any concerns that they may have.”

Carrington has invested strongly in providing senior living options to the local area with four existing aged care homes and 283 retirement living units. Given the region’s growing population, it would seem this additional development is still much-needed.
