BaptistCare NSW & ACT has unveiled plans for its massive $1.978 billion “vertical village” precinct at Macquarie Park in Sydney’s north, which will feature retirement living with co-located aged care as well as Build To Rent (BTR), student accommodation, and mixed use residential housing.
The community – to be built on 6.4 hectares in four stages, starting in 2025 – will necessitate the demolition of the existing BaptistCare Willandra Village on the site.
The first stage will comprise 149 independent living units and 96 aged care beds, as well as communal areas, while the second stage will bring BTR, more seniors housing, retail, and educational facilities; another mixed-use and residential building will be built in the third stage, with student accommodation and more mixed-use buildings coming in the fourth and final stage.
“Importantly, (the remainder of) the site will continue to function as a working, operational aged care environment throughout Stage 1,” a planner for the project told the North Shore Times.
“No short to medium-term plans have been made for Dorothy Henderson Lodge or Shalom Centre. Accordingly, the amount of development on site at any one time will need to be carefully managed to minimise any significant disruption to these facilities.”
BaptistCare is not the only operator planning continuum-of-care in Sydney’s northern suburbs, with vertical developments from Uniting and Levande both in development at nearby Epping.
Plans for BaptistCare’s development are on public exhibition until February 10.
