Council recommends 40% extra height allowance for $189M Anglicare village and aged care expansion in south Sydney

Sydney’s largest village operator wants to construct five buildings four- and five-storeys high with 183 units and a three-storey, 48-bed aged care facility on land alongside its existing four-storey 228-unit Woolooware Shores village at Taren Point, 25km south of the CBD.

The Local Environment Plan (LEP) has a maximum height of 16 metres for the site, but the new building would reach 22.2 metres.

But Sutherland Shire Council says the height concession is acceptable considering the context of the development.

The proposed height is also lower than the heights approved for the nearby Cronulla Sharks Rugby League Club development at the Woolooware Bay Town Centre development which will house 880 apartments including senior’s housing.

It may also help that just two submissions were received against the project – including one from residents in the closest building in the existing village.

With 27 villages across Sydney, Anglicare’s development pipeline is focused on ‘continuum of care’ with co-located village and aged care developments planned for Glenhaven, Milperra and Rooty Hill too.
