Fears aged care staff “stealing” PPE

An email released by the hotel quarantine inquiry reportedly states aged care facilities were not provided with PPE over fears it was being stolen by staff.

The Herald Sun reports the email, written by Deputy Chief Health Officer Dr Annaliese van Diemen states the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) “cannot preposition (PPE) in facilities as people are stealing it”.

The paper states Dr van Diemen had proposed a “needs assessment of what a facility should have to get them through first 24 hours of an outbreak”.

The document is among thousands made public by the inquiry over the weekend.
