Fed Govt announces $100M for Commonwealth Home Support Programme – allowing Australians to age with “dignity” and “choice”

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the funding – to be delivered to the $5.5 billion Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) over two years – last week, saying “it will allow Australians to age with grace, dignity, and choice.”

The funding will go towards five services marked for growth:

  • Domestic assistance
  • Meals
  • Transport
  • Home maintenance
  • Home modifications

Another $50 million per year will also be offered to select CHSP service providers to meet immediate needs over the next two years, with the first payments to providers in January 2019.

We can’t help but feel however that the announcement has more to do with the latest home care data released last week which showed the waiting list for packages has grown from 108,000 in March 2018 to 121,000 at the end of June – a 13,000 jump in three months.

How far will this new funding go?
