Former Manly Hospital site in Sydney rezoned for aged care use

The 4.7ha site of the former Manly Hospital, 17km northeast of Sydney’s CBD, has been rezoned to allow for aged care and preventative mental health services.

The NSW Government is seeking a private sector partner to redevelop the former hospital, which closed in 2018. About 30% of buildings must be retained, being considered to have heritage value.

The State Government has already announced a $19.5 million Manly Adolescent and Young Adult Hospice (AYAH), Australia’s first dedicated service for young people with life-limiting illness, will be built on part of the hospital site. The service will be for 15 to 24-year-old patients with terminal  illness and will offer respite care, symptom management and end-of-life care.
