GemLife Currumbin Waters retirement tower on Gold Coast to make a third bid

The owners of land that has twice been rejected as a site for a retirement tower complex for GemLife at Currumbin Waters on the Gold Coast are to try again.

As we reported HERE, the first rejection was in January 2019.

Singapore’s Thakral group and Peter and Adrian Puljich (pictured) paid $13.82 million for the land for their over-50s retirement resort on a former trotting track that backs on to Currumbin Creek.

Gold Coast City Council rejected the proposal for GemLife’s Currumbin Waters in 2018 and the Planning and Environment Court rejected the appeal in May 2020.

The original plan council and the court rejected was for a 340-title village, with the units spread over 16 buildings.

The new proposal sees the number of residential towers trimmed to 12, the footprint shrunk by 2ha, a new buffer zone of at least 200 metres along the creek-front, and 5ha dedicated to the council as public open space. The number of trees to be removed is reduced from nearly 100 to seven.
