Have your say on aged care: QLD advocacy group launches new consumer website

Brisbane-based independent advocacy group Older People Speak Out (OPSO) has set up the ‘Have Your Say on Aged Care’ site to collect stories from residents, families, carers and staff on their experiences ahead of the Federal Government’s next moves on aged care regulation.

“Your input will be invaluable as a way to let Canberra publicly know what the issues are at the coalface. You will be helping us show policymakers and politicians what really needs to be addressed,” the site states.

While fairly basic, it is clear that a lot of thought has gone into its research and design – and it’s starting to gain traction. The Senior ran this story HERE.

OPSO is a non-government-funded organisation founded in 1993 by Val French, a journalist and then foundation President of Carers Queensland to promote ‘Justice for Seniors’.

Today it runs an annual media award ceremony recognising journalists that promote seniors’ issues and participates in a number of government advisory groups.

A reminder then that these advocacy groups do have real pulling power with the media and government.
