Local developer Hunter Land’s proposal for a $29.7 million senior’s housing development and men’s shed has been given council approval.

The development, located at Berry Park, 10km east of Maitland, NSW, will contain 95 new residential homes, a community centre and a men’s shed, to be delivered in six stages.

The original plan was for 132 residential homes but significant design changes resulted in a reduction of the number of homes across the 30.6-hectare site.

The newly approved retirement village is only a few hundred metres from another of Mr Grugeon's developments, a 176 dwelling land lease community.

Hilton Grugeon (pictured), co-founder and chairman of Hunter Land, told The Daily Telegraph the region was a perfect location for senior living villages because it would allow residents to stay living locally while also freeing up homes for young families.

Construction won’t begin until at least the beginning of 2022 with research into local Indigenous artefacts needing to be completed first.
