Ken Wyatt takes over from Sussan Ley as Aged Care Minister

Mr Wyatt will be sworn in today as the first Indigenous person to assume a role in the Commonwealth ministry, taking over from Ms Ley who stood down last week amidst a review into her travel expenses.

Mr Wyatt has also been promoted to oversee the Indigenous Health portfolio.
Minister Wyatt, who was elected to Parliament in 2010 as the Minister for Hasluck in WA, had been serving as the Assistant Minister for Aged Care since February 2016 and the Assistant Minister for Health since September 2015.

Greg Hunt has also been appointed the new Minister for Health and Sport in the latest Coalition reshuffle, the fourth under Turnbull.

Correction: we received an email from Patrick Reid – ex-LASA CEO and now a Director at StewartBrown, reminding us that while in power Labor had three (not two) Ministers for Ageing. Jacinta Collins followed Mark Butler for 80 days in 2013.
