Latest news on the Living Longer Living Better legislation

Today is 25 June and Parliament rises on Friday 28 June for the last time before the September election. There are still 53 bills in the Senate to be approved by close of play Friday. Each one has been allocated 30 minutes for review. The five Aged Care Bills that represent the Living Longer Living Better program have been allocated from 9:35 AM to 10:15 AM tomorrow, Wednesday, for Senate review, before being sent back to the House of Representatives for approval.

Four amendments have been proposed but as Labor will have the support of the Greens in the Senate it is expected the Bills will be passed through quickly. And as Labor has the numbers in the House of Reps, plus the Coalition has not shown strong opposition, it is expected the legislation will be passed. The government’s plan is this legislation will establish the course for the operation of aged care for the next 10 years, with the first review after five years.
