Man accused of multiple crimes at Sydney retirement villages – including attempted murder

Peter Thai Vinh Phu Bui, 43, of Orange has been charged with 12 offences including attempted murder, two counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence as well specially aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence after allegedly targeting elderly residents in a spate of robberies.

He was also charged with four counts of dealing with property proceeds of crime, break and enter, stealing and destroying property and aggravated enter dwelling with intent at a number of retirement villages in Sydney’s northern suburbs – 260km from home.

In the most serious incident, Bui is alleged to have broken into Patricia Maton’s unit on November 16 2019 at the Huon Retirement Village in North Turramurra in Sydney and stealing two gold rings before strangling her, leaving her with a fractured nose, bleeding to her brain and multiple cuts and bruises.

Bui is yet to enter a plea. The matter will return to court in late June.
